Gladiatorial games are the best discipline against the fear of death and suffering that can be presented to the eye.
Phase II closes, Phase III starts: Taking the Oath.
Auctoramentum Gladiatorium means "Gladiator's Oath." I could present a full beautiful speech about these games presented at the ancient halls of Sani Sabik cults but somehow my mind has lost all touch of poetic resemblance. So I'll be direct:
Auctoramentum Gladiatorium is a game where I expect you to fight, kill or die for money, glory and pleasure. The Arena will be set into two stages:
At space
*Faction cruiser gladiators only. *12 Gladiators will be accepted. *System: Death cage ( All gladiators will be set into circles. A gladiator selects their opponent. The winner passes to the next circle and points who will choose next ) The last remaining ( if not chosen )is automatically classified. *All modules allowed *Location: to be announced to the 12 chosen * Prize: One faction Battleship of choice for the winner.
The Arena ( in channel )
* Gladiators will fight according to the ancient ways. Body x Body. * 12 gladiators will be accepted * Fights will last 7 minutes * A panel of judges will declare a winner after all gladiators have finished. * Prize: 1 Billion isk.
Selection of Gladiators
We will be accepting 3 kinds:
1- Gladiators commonly drawn either from prisoners of war, or slaves or criminals condemned to death.
2- Freedmen and Empire citizens who will voluntarily take the auctoramentum gladiatorium "gladiator's oath"
3- Men or Women of birth and fortune that will enter the lists, either for the pure love of fighting or to gratify the whim of some of their superious representing their Alliance, Corporation, faction or Empires.
The Application should be presented here with:
Category you wish to apply: Space, Arena or Both Race class of gladiator - 1,2 or 3 acc to the above A brief description of your motivations for participating at the games.
Ps. If you belong to category one, Your Master must endorse your contract here.
All applications whould come with the Oath signed:
ôI will endure to be burned, to be bound, to be beaten, and to be killed by the strong ö
That's all.

Originally by: Vlad Cetes How are the arena fights going to occur?
Probably the best way RP wise would be a series of 1 v 1 matches in Unreal Tournament
ooc reply The in channel events usually are made with the same pattern as I have done on my previous events. Basically there will be a panel of judges and gladiators will make a style description of the fight. As any role play, style, characterization, details, will count. Obviously we will have the arena with role play "technologies" that will avoid the sort of thing as " I kicked his face and broke his neck" end of story. Players will have 7 minutes to display their best characterization.
Talking about unreal tournment, I'm not against it, if players want to add this feature it will be ok. But basically I try to keep everything that is eve, inside eve.

It'll go to whoever is buddy upped with them the most, and there's nothing you can say otherwise.
This is a subject that applies to any sort of events that has human interface to it. Nothing one can do to take the human mind from its worst possibilities. Ultimately, the "arena" in channel is a role play event. a player will go inside the channel ( if invited) and perform. He won't be losing anything and risking to leave the event with one billion isk in his wallet. Not much to be said in this matter.
So yes, the event is here, join if you feel for and when the selection starts, maybe you'll be there to see how it's done. Good luck.
I'd like also to ask players to keep to this thread and don't spread applications all over neither pm on othe forums. It becomes unfeasible to track. thanks

Greetings Aranel
At the present moment the event will be taking place within private quarters. Usually, as it has been done previously with all Resort events, I'll issue private invitations to allow guests entrance to the main hall. When the private invitations are sent, other pilots are of course welcome to request an invitation as well at the correspondent thread and each case will be taken into consideration. The Arena at space will allow expectators as well, under restricted requirements, one being no combat ships. One will be able to be invited to the arena omboard their capsule.
My appreciation for the good wishes towards the event.

Greetings
ooc reply.
First of all, allow me to communicate the official ISD news about the event:
death or glory - auctoramentum gladiatorium reported by ISD Zachary Zain | 2008.04.11 16:38:31
Now I'll try to answer your questions regarding the event. I'll edit this post to order the quotes.

and now to the questions:
Originally by: Heliocon * off record interms of eve time what time will this even take place since I live in a funny TZ?
The time of the event will be communicated to the gladiators and guests in advance. As we are speaking about a limited number, we'll be able to reach a feasible compromise.
Originally by: Han Jian ((Hm.. are we supplied with the faction cruiser during the fight? I can't afford one right now.))
No, in principle Bloodveil is not supplying gladiatores with the faction cruisers, although many pilots are using role play venues with bloodveil ( and Revan in character, in her ways ) to be sponsored.
Originally by: MotherMoon OOC: I'm wondering how you'll be handling arena matches, body on body. Space? sweet, cool, I really want to find an excuse to jump into my favorite ship in the whole game and prove my strenght...
but arena? now I'm really interested, will it be writting based? Best rper for the win? Or like a drawn comic sytle where every player plays out in some medium what ahppens and the coolest of the outcomes wions?
I'm only wondering because you've put money on the line for the event. As a rper, how are you handling this?
Generally, as it has been done in all my events, money is involved. Let me remind that although this event was moved to event the event thread, it is originally set up for Intergalactic summit where only a role play stance is acceptable.
But allow me a few words to introduce the role play of Revan Neferis, and Bloodveil inside the context:
Revan Neferis ( the character) represents a faith, a line of Sani Sabik in which she believes in power expressed by money, politics, wealth and blood. She is basically a blend of caligula with Bill Gates, so you get the picture. It's common to her to make public displays of such using events which started a few years ago with series of parties "Neferi's resort" and evolved into events where money was largely involved. Last event we had something similar inside where there was a competition of exotic dance. It was a test to see how this sort of in channel events could be done.
What we saw was an interesting blend between players seeking originality, details, exquisite moves and diversity to be able to represent their style. I strongly believe that this time we will see the same aspects. As it must represent a religious custom of ancient holders, players will have to keep this in mind and bring this athmosphere to the games. So, to try answering your question: best role play style, description, originallity and representation of the games in light of sani sabik mortal games.

Originally by: A Soporific Also, are we expected to self-moderate the effectiveness of our own blows or are supposed to speak our actions while waiting for a moderator to award "points" to indicate how effective our strikes are? I have had many poor RPing experiences where people self-moderated damage without taking reactions into account. All fighting styles have reactions as well as actions, and I like to use all of them. On the other hand, having a third party to ensure fairness in a chat-based forum can slow down the action in the most painful of ways.
very well pointed. My first thought on the matter would be to introduce a " role play" feature inside the arena where during the fights no self abuse of style would be permitted. For example, a player that "/emote kicks his opponent in the face killing him" will obviously serve nothing to the game itself. Remember this is an event and it is expected participants understands what it comprises. This said, I'd like to hear more about how do you think it could be judged Mr.
Originally by: A Soporific Finally, are eye gouging, joint suppression, and biting allowed? If there are ground rules about "below the belt" stuff, I would like to know before I sign up. The last thing I need is to bring the wrong mood or mindset to a fight and end up loosing on penalties because of it.
This is a Sani Sabik event and inside the role play mind-set it should be as "bloodiest" as possible. Think about it with the view of gladiators entertaining many eccentric personalities as caligulas, multibillionairs insane cultists, socialities and alike. Use your imagination, no restrictions in this matter will be given.

Some of us are not too comfortable in low-sec
The system where the games will take place will be announced at least a week in advance to the gladiators. They will be advised to relocate their ships to the location before a public announcement is made.
During the games, we will have private security at gates, cloaked and at the fighting points. I expect no troubles in this regard

I'm assuming (maybe incorrectly) that in order for pilots to wake up after being killed, they much be killed from within a pod. If a pod pilot is killed in the arena, is that character expected to be dead forever?
This may seem like a silly question to some, but I'm curious since this is a "high stakes" event.
ooc reply The only silly question is the one never asked Mr. To answer your question, no, there will be no such role play consequences. The only ( inevitable) will be pilots to risk losing implants as we will follow the traditional gladiator style and the winner at the end will have the choice to pod their opponent if the guests so wishes. The famous " thumbs up or down" for original gladiator tales.
So, no, no death is forever inside eve.

Following the spirit of games, gladiators enters the fight to kill or die. Warpouts won't be allowed.
To ensure this we will count with the word each gladiator has signed here upon their honour. And... if this won'¿t suffice, they will be scrambled by or security upon arrival at the location.
Gladiators that breaks their oath will be announced publicily and face the consequences of it. Obviously one of them will be the automatically permanent banning from any further events.

Originally by: Rosaline BlueMoon Interms of space combat will combatants be allowed to restock in ammo and repair themselves at station between matches? Can combatants dock between fights basically.
Yes. The system works like this for better understanding:
Death cage arena 1
12 gladiators.
First gladiator (randonlly selected) will choose his opponent.
Match Gladiator A x B
Winner is classified to next round - rights to redock, re-fit, change ships ( as long as faction cruisers )
Defeated Gladiator is poded ( if the guests choses so ) and out of the games.
Death cage Arena 2 6 gladiators passes to next death cage and process starts again.
3 dies 3 advances
Death Cage Arena 3
The gladiator with the most impressive fight during the past 2 cages, gets to select his opponent. The third gladiator automatically goes to the final.
Death Cage Arena 4
2 gladiators. 1 winner.
Originally by: Rosaline BlueMoon What happens if a tie is declared between two ship combatants say one is nano fit *lame* and another can perma tank him but not hit him.
We will follow the gladiator theme, if fight is avoided and the match becomes non entertaining both will be declared unfit and desqualified for the next round. Remember this is an event with a gladiator theme. Think smartly to enter the theme.
Originally by: Rosaline BlueMoon Interms of the arena combat will we respond to enemies blows by our reaction say he punches me in the stomach, then i say : i curl over in pain? if a player has to do this and make i9t realistic and dramatic for the fun of the fight wont he loss the fight? and ho do oyu finish someone off? could we have an example plz? thanks :)
As I explained before, what matters in terms of the arena fight is more style, originality, and entertainment level. In a dinamic set of role play with time and rt based we expect players to enter the theme and avoid clichTs and rp dissonances. To this effort, all fights will be adapted as to a high tech space ambience where judges and guests will ( role play wise) hold virtual shields around their gladiators until the final moment of the match. When all matches ends, we will be declaring winners of each match and his "opponent" gets his shield "turned off" for the winner to "finish him" with a final blow. We proceed like this in the same system as the space arena until the winner is declared.

Inviation for Guests ( We call VIP Guests ) will be the theme of the Forth Phase of this event which starts on the 20th April with the preliminaire guest list made public.
Usually the guest list starts as fixed with some prominent members of the capsuleer community who have been participating on my events since the first, but role play manouvers and unexpected things happens during this phase that leads other players to be invited as well. In advance, most of the cases happens during forum interaction. So if you would like to receive an invitation, be creative and apply when the phase 4 starts on 20th April. A new thread will be made about it.

Regarding questions of petitionable; people have their standards to what they take it as such. Many of my guests and gladiators complained about spam of mails from a certain individual to which one of them came here to relate what he did about it and I agree, as I would have done absolutely the same. Again, if anyone feels harrassed by this sort of actions. Block, petition button. The system is im place to be used.
Regarding questions about the Indoors arena, as in any event, we have gladiators invited and waiting line. If pne gladiator fails to attend, we will place others in their place. Fortuantely, we have plenty of options as we always had regarding my events.
The indoors Arena is an in channel event without purposes other then a bit of entertainment. The serious part of the event comes from the space Arena as it requires logistics and settings, as well the CSM Halls, as I , personally and many of my guests are very interested to it and will be putting more attention into this event.
Due to the large applications from candidate sto CSM halls, if the event continued indoors, we would far have to extend the agenda case wich is not feasible due to be a sunday where many of us ( including myself) needs to be up early morning on monday.
So, as I don't think it's fair to leave CSM candidates outside, I'll be taking these 7 minutes out of indoor arena event. This also explains the extensive Guest list, which of course already brings most entertainment to the event as it ever could with so many known names of this community having confirmed acceptance.
I try to keep my events limited to 50 people generally and it seems to me that this is a reasonable number to manage and work with.
Again thanks for joining!

Due to external and internal pressure, I have no other option than to cancel my participation to the Auctoramentum Gladiatorium. I can't afford to have my corporation involved into collateral events, even if I'm not representing it. I wish that this will not put mess in your agenda, and that our relationship will not be altered.
Shame on me.

Not a problem, your mail was already received before and your place already taken in by a gladiator who applied and was on the waiting list. ( Mr Vlades Cetes )
Regards and good fortunes!

Edited by: Revan Neferis on 20/04/2008 16:04:52 Interesting statement ooc from PIE, although I must confess myself surprised. It's not unkown to any of you the fact that ooc dealings of past made interactions between our organizations very umpleasing leading to a non will to participate neither engage on any dealings that our organizations does. As it's well perceived, for I ignore all PIE posts and events.
However, despite my absolutely disbelieve that PIE is now making an attempt to improve the player driven events and actually encouraging new players to attend in a role play scenario, I'm willing to watch and see if this will be the case. Role play is supposed to be fun for the parts involved and despite the fact that my guests and gladiators members of known alliances and personal friends just laughed at the sudden "will of PIE" to be "inside" , I believe that his treats aimed at the new players to wish to be involved in an event is just poor of taste. My opinion in this matter is very known too.
Regardless, I'll continue with my position of non involvement with PIE in any form or shape. As a player I see no reason to do so.
As Revan, she will simply ignore the interferences and run the event as planned. Nothing has changed in this regard and it won't.
As to the claim of CSM candidates being outside, I beg to correct. The CSM candidate from eve university received mails as well despite of being a CSM candidate hall explicitely on the invitations. There are similar cases as well.
Still on the subject of CSM Halls, it will happen inside the event, therefore candidates are set as guests as well.
I hope this clarifies my position.

Our characters don't know anything about the CSM and as such it seems a bit odd to expect us to forget about our IC principles for something that IC we don't even know exists.
Wrong in so many ways that I even don't know where to start.
First of all, my philosophy or making events is not like yours: I drive people into role play stance, not alienate them. For me it doesn't matter if they are inside the "role play sandbox elite" When I see people that never used the summit before going there and posting, I see the steriotype of division breaking and many good things can come of it. CSM candidates will also have an opportunity to see role players in character and understand that our worlds are not that apart as you are trying to imply Rodj.
Secondly, due to the reason above and as a host I hold full rights to run the event as I see fit. So no, perhaps it should be better that you continue to organize yor travels around amarr and masses and prays as you see fit, and I'll lead my events as I see fit. If you interefere without knowledge or my involvement then consider that me and my guests + gladiators holds the right to respond exactly the same way.
Third, it was you who declared that CSM candidates wasn't involved when actualy they were. I was correcting a wrong statemnt from your own part.
Least and not last, If you have anything else to discuss seek me privately. This is not an ic venue and I hold no intention to enter ooc discussions between us disrupting the thread any further.
Gladiators, feel free to continue and answer your challenges. Tonight at 24:00 gmt, we will close all arenas, if your challenge or answer wasn't posted by then, I'll consider the challengers choice as valid and we will go from there.

Originally by: Rodj Blake I understand what you're saying Stonyvision, however conflict has always been a part of RP in Eve, and I hope that that continues.
I hope that people wanting to get involved in some RP can use this to futher their gaming experience, and as I said earlier we may be using this to provide people with RP opportunites once the event is over.
If you're going to use this an excuse at least be consistent and send your spam mails to the large alliances and veteram players as well, as they are part of my guest list as much as the new players you tried to threat.
Due to the ooc history between us, it's clear what you tried to achieve here. Unfortunately, the only result has been a new player who wrote me even to apologise because he couldn't understand what it would mean PIE threats.
As Stonyvision has said, veterams doesn't give a toss about what PIE does as we know very well what it represents in any actual term. For us it's a jest because we know what PIE is. For new players without knowledge it could be something. This one player was the one affected only by not being able to join the event and a chance to present himself and win a little cash to start with.
Anyhow, as said above. The event proceeds normally as it was planned. To protection matters one should not be worried. I'm used to deal with these things. Each gladiator match will occur in a different system in alternating times during the events. There are safe spots made out of scan range to all matches and only the gladiators themselves + staff + security and ISD will know the location as it will be announced in real time.
All the csm halls and indoors will happen in channel only.
The event will go smoothly as planned with the best that a player driven event can organize.
Enjoy

Bloodveil members won't be able to enter competitions for obvious reasons. However you'll all be able to participate in another fashion. Talk to me in game about it. I know that I'm not really easy to reach lately in corp channel or privately but I'll talk to you all about it these coming days.
About bets, of course! game on!

Gaven. If you have any idea of the amount of time and organization that it takes to put an event like this together you'd understand that sometimes it's not a matter of playing along. It's simply a matter of feasibility as well. I have a tight schedulle to make this event flowing without letting any of us sitting in front of our pcs for hours. Although I know that on my past events people enjoyed staying even longer then what is planned. Anyhow my main point beeing now: If I include also time to role play with PIE in any fashion or form, this will simply delay the event even further. If this was planned it should have been communicated to me in advance in order to be fit inside the plan.
Now, in the subjective matter what I spoke above stands: PIE in general with a few exceptions have never contributed to the good development of anything related to our good relations as players. My answer was propper to one of the players to which I refer. You state the case about SF interfeerance, unfortunately I won't comment on this domain as Jade's actions is his own. I have commited myself for personal decision to not interefere on anything related to PIE simply because ooc relations between us wouldn't bring any satisfaction. And I'm a player that enjoys spending a leisure time here to have fun and good distraction.
Now I do ackowledge your post now because it came in a completely different fashion then the previous poster that simply acted with bad intentions and caused a new player to quit. These sort of actions at my view is distastefull as I have full respect to new players and like to encourage them to participate. Furthermore, me and many of the people involved on my events, we have a certain code of conduct. Having Rodj spaming our mails, trolling our threads is not the way to go if you want to have a healthy participating at the event at all. This also reflects badly at your organization as the public ( as it happens) frowns upon this sort of behavior.

You don't need to respond politely. No reason you should. But understand that it is entirely due to the hostilities between our characters and Revan's character and that there need not be any problem between the players of the characters or any intent to break the event fueling the response. In other words, don't attack the players, dont invent hostile OOC agendas, deal with the very simple and self evident in character attacks and in character agendas and you will find that the conflict can be fun for both sides.
If anything, we are doing the event the favor of recognizing IC that it is important and giving it an impact on the game.
All that said, I hope you all have fun with the event. Entirely OOCly of course.
Unfortunately half of the cluster including many of the people involved knows that the entire issue is ooc. If it was not, no reason why a sani sabik cult and a loyalist amarrian entity wouldn't be involved on any role play for the last years.
As I said if PIE has intentions to change this, you Gaven is welcome to contat me privately and we can talk about it. We agree on one aspect: Any role play event needs to be fun for both sides and if you ask us to ackowledge your entrance, please have the courtesy to clean under the teable first. I have absolutely no reasons so far to believe that "fun" can be achieved by introducing PIE into this event because ooc relations are blurred and unwelcome so far at best.
My regards Revan

One of the factors in deciding to send out the warnings via eve-mail was to avoid unnecessary clutter on the various threads. Believe it or not, I generally prefer to conduct diplomacy behind the scenes rather than in the full glare of publicity for that reason!
However, once one of the mails was posted on the forum along with a number of personal insults aimed at me, I felt that further public clarification was needed.
Additionally, whilst this thread and the other one may be on an OOC forum, they both started out life on the IGS and both contain large IC elements.
Both were moved to an ooc area therefore asking for ooc imput. I'll not discuss moderation issues here but I'll continue to follow the rules that is applicable to each section as should all of you.

2nd - A response. Apologies to Revan that I put it here.
ôRodj Blake wrote - I would like to assure one player (who I won't name and shame) that my parents were not cousins and that I do not live in their basement. I'm also not a moonshine drinker (whisky is far nicer). I'm not sure that he needed to use so many four letter words to make his point though.ö
Well letÆs not beat around the bush shall we, you sent me a harassing and threatening email in game stating basically that if I decided to attend the first event I have ever attended in the two years IÆve casually played this game, you will basically put a KOS on my toonÆs head. My toon is about as threatening as 20 year old de-clawed, deaf cat.
Did you expect me to jump up and down and wave my arms going ôwoot!ö? Perhaps you expected me to just stand there and make a ôyarpö sound? Maybe even you expected me to fire a RP comment back in jest, instead of insulting your parentage, living accommodations or whether or not your parents were drunk upon your inception?
Well tough. Do you actually know that perhaps 85-90% of the people who play EVE do NOT role-play the game? It is possibly higher, but for those that take part in these occasional events, technically we are RPing. Personally if I want to RP I will break out my WoD books, call my players and organize an evening of World of Darkness around the table with dice, characters and snacks.
I am also wondering if perhaps if you had actually put some thought into the posting you might have realized that everyone who signed up would be checking the thread regularly to see if they got in, thus you could have made one post on the thread which everyone would have seen, and not suddenly been on the receiving end of hostile insults and comparisons of your genetic ancestry.
You want an appropriate RP response from my toon? Ok, letÆs look at this shall we? I play a Caldarià we are all about business and ISK. Hmmm, tournament which costs me nothing to enter and could reap me a billion ISK. Good investment. Your comment about possible repercussions weighted versus 1 billion ISK. Still a good risk. I go anyways. You want to try to war-dec me? Go right ahead à tryà I will wait till the suns grow cold and the Jove come to tea, because you canÆt war-dec my corp. KOS? Fine, the risk is still work the billion ISK cause I can re-buy clones, jump clones and ships with it quite easily. Profit still out weighs the risk factor. I go anyways.
And now a more polite response to your email, because I will agree my response was harsh à but you caught me at a particularly volatile point in my life, so deal with it.
Dear Mr. Blake. I play casually. I do not RP in this game. It is my form of relaxation. If you or any member of your corp/alliance decided to KOS status me and follow through with it because I decided to try out an in game event for the 1st time and it seems to intrude on your RP fantasy world, I will petition the GMs endlessly until such point as they are forced to intervene to end things.
There à happy now? I donÆt want your RP stuff intruding on my game play. Not why I play the game. Now go away and bother me no more.
Good post Jay. People will have to learn to deal with the consequences of their actions and accepts that each player here have their style. Imposing their way into others is not the way to go. I'm pleased to know that this will be the first event you'll have the chance to participate. This is all about it, bring old players of name and new ones together, show a little bit of our role play and actual in game perspectives. Be welcomed

Enjoy your first event, but consider our actions a part of said event. Your first event is something big, so it has big results. That is what makes EVE awesome.
We are not out to ruin your game, and we certainly will not be attempting to grief you. It is quite likely that you will not hear from us again, unless, of course, you do something supporting one of our IC enemies again.
That said, I think we have done what needed to be done to defend our actions OOC, so I would echo Jade and Elsebeth and suggest we end this derailment and let Revan get back to organising her event. I will not be responding further to this thread.
I hope you have a blast with this event, Jay, and that it is not your last such roleplay oriented event.

Please note that one of the reasons some threads have been moved to the Events forum was to aid the development of said forum into something more RP based.
Moving in IC thread to somewhere where OOC comments are to be expected was a conscious effort to spread the profile of the RP fraternity in game. Given the number of new players asking about role playing aspects there would appear to be a lot of fresh blood interested.
Yes thanks for making this event a good laboratory
Jokes apart, many of us are a bit lost about how the event area should be used. Bear in mind that those events has always been presented into an ic perspective and the efforts are to adapt now to a new public witch to be honest I'm extremelly pleased with their acceptance. Let's see what the future will bring. Thanks for cleaning the thread.
